Thanksgiving 2015

And so another year rolls around and while much is the same, there have been changes as well and I am grateful.

In years past I have traveled to Montreal mid October to celebrate my daughter Antonia's birthday and to visit with my brother and his family. This year Antonia has traveled to London to be with her "manfellow" and his family.

Fortunately I had the opportunity to travel to Montreal in June. It is such a joy to get together with family! We prepared and ate meals together, went for walks, I watched my niece Priscilla figure skate, my nephew Gerald play hockey, I listened to my nephew Stephen play guitar, I met Antonia's manfellow, watched the year end show at École Nationale de Cirque that Antonia was performing in. She sang beautifully!

Thanksgiving this year I will be staying in Vancouver. I am so grateful for past Thanksgivings celebrated together with my parents, grandparents, aunts uncles cousins, my bothers and sisters, nieces nephews, some still living here in Vancouver. I am so grateful to have friends and family here and all around the world! In fact, as my heart continues to open wider, I feel more and more that we are really all one big family. As the saying goes, "there are no strangers here; only friends you haven't yet met"- William Butler Yeats.

A powerful way I have found to experience oneness is by chanting the soul song Love, Peace and Harmony

I love my heart and soul
I love all humanity
Join hearts and souls together
Love peace and harmony
Love peace and harmony

Families and Thanksgiving

A recent experience as a volunteer brought up an issue from my childhood.  I recalled one weekend I spent hours taking care of household duties; laundry and ironing, vacuuming, dusting, baking.  When my mother came home, she asked me if I had also washed the floor.  I recall the feeling of pride rapidly deflating at that time.  With a higher understanding, I now realize that my service at that time (and also more recently) was not unconditional; I had expected to be "paid" with gratitude.  Families offer us unlimited opportunities to develop unconditional love, unconditional forgiveness and unconditional service.  For that we can be very grateful!

I think back to my mother and I realise that every day she took care of household duties and fortunately she did not stand by waiting for any of us children to thank her.  While we celebrated her contributions each year on Mother's Day, we learned from our father to express gratitude for the meal she lovingly prepared for dinner each day.  Further development of gratitude has taken time.

As I reflect on the amazing service offered by parents, guardians and ancestors, from teachers and coaches, from health care workers, from tradespeople, public servants and many more, I realise that the appropriate response to the service offered is to express gratitude and to "pay it forward," offering unconditional service.  When I think about the unconditional service offered by Mother Earth and Father Sun, without which there would be no life on Earth as we know it, the only response I can offer is unconditional service and gratitude.  When I think about the Divine, the source of all life, all my Soul Mothers and Fathers in all layers of Heaven and Mother Earth, the only response I can offer is unconditional service and gratitude.

I am so grateful to have the opportunity within my family to learn about service and gratitude and very grateful now to continue learning as we together create the Love Peace Harmony World Family! See more at:

New Years and family

December 31, 2013

And so we prepare to mark the passing of one year and move into the next, an artificial marking of time that has as much meaning as we ascribe to it.  Each moment is a new opportunity to be born afresh; what will I express in this moment?  How will I relate to myself and each of my family members in this moment?  What I feel at this moment is immense gratitude for each and every member of my family, for both the blessings and the challenges; each has been a gift.  And so I radiate this gratitude and love to each of my family members right now, knowing that no matter where in the world each is now, the message will be received.  May each of you reading this today take a moment to express gratitude and love to each of your family members.  Happy new moment!  Happy New Year!
